Too Much Spontaneity
One thing that I’ve found myself doing over the years is having an idea and creating a “thing” based solely on that idea without spending much time thinking it through.
As an example, years ago I noticed that if you remove a letter from some words, those words can mean something different – If you remove the S from Persil it could become Peril. and The Great Wall Of China without the N would become The Great Wall Of Chin. After having perhaps 4 or 5 of these thoughts I jumped in and created the website OneLetterLess.com. It was great for the first week or so and I came up with loads of ideas. I made each idea into a picture to help demonstrate.
But a couple of weeks later I realised that there were some words of phrases that I could ADD a letter to to change their meaning. But because these new ideas has one additional letter in them, I couldn’t put those on a website called One Letter Less. Furthermore I noticed that there were a few words and phrases that would have different meanings if you merely CHANGED one of the letters for a different letter. Again, these had no place on One Letter Less.
As soon as I realised that because I had bought a website name that tells people it contains just things with one fewer letter in them I had limited myself so much, I lost all drive to update it. And so it became yet another “thing” I’ve created that I’ve given up on. I have honestly lost track of all the “things” I’ve made over the last 25 years of being online, but they include many, many websites, YouTube channels, Twitter accounts, Facebook apps… loads of stuff.
With this (FINALLY) in mind, I have amended the Squishy Super Happy Fun Joy YouTube account. It is now just called Super Happy Fun Joy, and makes no reference to Squishies in the title. The Squishy videos are still on there, but the channel itself has been repurposed to be a repository, or a catch-all, of “video things I’ve made”. Up to now it contains all the original Squishy videos, along with 20 80s jokes as told by AI people, and a couple of experimental AI videos.
I’m hoping that by having a YouTube channel that isn’t limited to just one idea, it will be able to grow into something bigger that most of the other online things I’ve made over the last quarter century.
